BANDSTAND BABIES Live Music Workshops are a fantastic introduction to LIVE music for babies and preschool children and are available for parent and toddler groups, playgroups, private day nurseries and children's centres as one off, monthly or half termly sessions.

Becoming involved in music making from a very early age helps children to learn a multitude of skills, both intellectual and social.

Bandstand Babies music classes differ from most others on the market because they do not rely on recorded music to deliver the activities. Children are given the opportunity to interact with a professional musician and are encouraged to feel the vibrations of the clarinet, saxophone, flute and recorder during LIVE performances.
Each session includes LOTS of participation with percussion instruments and children are encouraged to share, to take turns and to listen to one another. Luan also incorporates singing and other vocal activities to help develop language skills, movement and dance to develop physical co-ordination and motor skills and listening games to develop concentration.
In addition to performing favourite songs and nursery rhymes on her clarinet, Luan improvises to suit the mood or theme of a particular game or activity. Live music is much more versatile than recorded music and Luan's instruments are extremely effective in illustrating musical concepts such as high/low, loud/quiet, fast/slow, happy/sad.
The sessions can provide excellent training opportunities for parents or carers who might wish to develop their own musical skills to enable them to continue making music at home.
Bandstand Babies music workshops are also ideal for birthday parties and seasonal celebrations. Games may include:

Musical statues (no explanation needed!)
Musical bumps (with added stretches! - for high and low notes)
Mini Maestros (a version of 'Follow My Leader' where children can try their hand at conducting)
Name That Tune (Can be tailored to suit children's preferences, eg nursery rhymes, TV themes)
Guess the Sound (a variety of listening games where children identify hidden instruments according to the sounds they make)
Guess the Animal (another listening game which is also good for movement/dance)
The Music Man says... (based on the popular game "Simon says")
Pass the Bean Bag (based on Pass the Parcel but children play instruments instead of taking off a layer - less messy!)
